Algerian sites listed as World Heritage by UNESCO

CASBAH ALGIERS (w Algiers.): In one of the finest coastal sites on the Mediterranean, overlooking the islands where a Carthaginian trading post was established in the fourth century BC. AD, the Casbah is a unique site "Medina" or Islamic city.
TIPASA (w Tipasa.): On the shores of the Mediterranean, Tipasa ancient Punic trading conquered by Rome which is a strategic base for the conquest of the kingdoms auritaniens?. The site includes a
unique set of Phoenician, Roman, early Christian and Byzantine side by side with indigenous monuments such as k'bar st roumia (tomb of Christian), the great royal mausoleum of Mauritania.



TIMGAD (w Batna.): On the north side of the Aures, Timgad was created "from scratch" in the year 100 AD. AD by Emperor Trajan as a military colony. With its square enclosure and octagonal design based on the "Cardo" and "decumanus", the two perpendicular routes running through the city is a perfect example of urban planning.





DJEMILA (w Setif.): Djémila or Cuicul with its forum, temples, basilicas, triumphal arches and houses, at a height of 900 above sea level, is an outstanding example of Roman town planning
adapted to a mountain location





 
Kalaa des Beni HAMMAD (Beni HAMMED Castle) (w Msila.): In a mountainous site of extraordinary beauty, tour the ruins of the capital of the first Hamadites emirs, founded in 1007 and disbanded in 1152, the image of a Muslim city fortified. The mosque, whose prayer room has 13 aisles with eight bays, is one of the largest in Algeria





VALLEY M'ZAB (w Ghardaia.): The landscape of the Valley Mzab, founded in the tenth century by
the Ibadites around their five ksours fortified cities, seems to have remained intact. Simple, functional and perfectly adapted to the environment, its architecture was designed for community living, while respecting the family structure.



TASSILI N'AJJER (w Tamanrasset.): This strange lunar landscape of great geological interest, one of the most important prehistoric rock art ensembles in the world. More than 15,000 drawings and engravings Perm? Ent of following, for 6 000-8 000 BC. BC to the first centuries of our era, changes in the climate, wildlife migrations and evolution of life in the Sahara.
