Algeria, Oasis and ksours

Palm trees, a river, a city ... Oasis. In every oasis, and found some pictures from one end to the other northern Sahara, occur practically the same scenes and types. Yet there are no two similar oasis. Not only is the scenery - mountains, dunes and gorges - is unique to each site, but the color of the soil, the architecture of houses, historical memories, irrigation methods, economic patterns, changes due to aircraft , route, hydrocarbons are contributing factors to define for each oasis own personality.

But we can navigate all the elements that make its former charm: its medina, its place, its many artisans, goldsmiths producing the "bou-Saadi," the famous traditional dagger, his twice-weekly market noisy, colorful, mosques and ... especially along the river that feeds the city, the ancient oasis ksar and the magnificent sunrise. Small miracle curiosity and freshness, a series of small waterfalls upstream of the river and the vestiges of colonial buildings reminiscent of the past existence of the mill Ferrero, whose name is engraved in our memories.

This depression located between Wadi Ghir and Tunisia was conquered by the obstinacy of the people to fetch water in the sand, sometimes up to 20 meters deep. There, the men created an original technique making the installation of palm trees possible, even without irrigation: at the bottom of craters in the sand, with a diameter of several meters, date palms which thus are grown roots are
